Purpose and Description

The Sentences lesson type is a good way to support understanding of compound words, sentence structure, parts of speech, and phrases. It also is a way to preview or review key concepts related to an instructional unit. The teacher or students can arrange words to form sentences and phrases.

How it works: Play mode

On "My Lessons" page search for the lesson that you want to create. Use the filters to the right to streamline your search. Once you find the desired lesson, touch the "Play" icon located on the middle of the lesson to open it.

After opening the lesson, a series words will appear as sentences will appear in rows. In the example, the words are set to appear in the sentences in the correct order. The words can be randomized in the settings. The words in the sentences can be ordered or mixed up and then put into the correct order in the row by dragging them. Words can also be moved between rows. The items on the screen can be moved as a group by dragging the background, or zoomed in or out by pinching.

Sentences is an open-ended lesson, so no feedback or points are provided.

Some lessons have a YouTube video linked to it and can show up at the beginning of the lesson. The video can be dismissed by pressing the X in the top right corner, or by pressing any key on the keyboard.

How to Build

Manage Content

The Manage Content Screen opens upon selecting the lesson type, where content for the lesson can be set. Below is an example from a previously created lesson.

Type in the title of the lesson in the textbox located at the top left-hand side of the Screen, then tap the Create Content button to add each content bar required for the lesson. Text is the only content that is handled by the bar in this lesson type.

Enter the text for each item in the text boxes. Any text entered in the box will appear in the Preview screen. The handles located on the right side of each text/content bar can be used to move them to a different order. Select the circle icon to the left of the bar to delete the bar.

Customize content

The Customize Content screen provides a way to change the look of the Sentences lesson. Above the sentences, there is a color selection row. The circle located at the far left in the row is the default color. Selecting it will give the word a random color. To set a color for a word, tap a color, and then touch a word. Select the Update Preview button at the bottom of the Customize Content screen to update changes.

The "ALL" button will change the words to the selected color. The Random (crossed arrows) will change the color of each word to a random color. Tapping repeatedly on the Random button will cycle through different color pattern for the words in the sentences.

The Undo button located at the right of the color selection row will undo all of the actions that were completed since the last the preview screen was updated. Press the Update Preview button located beneath the sentences in the Customize Content section to see the changes in the Preview screen, located in the top right section of the display.

Preview screen

The Preview Screen, located in the top right of the interface, will display the current state of the lesson as you update your work. After you are done making the lesson, the Preview screen provides a way to play the lesson and check if any changes are needed.

In the Text section, located beneath the Preview Screen, you can select the font, font size, font color, and font shadow.

In the Background section, under Theme, you can choose a NUITEQ Snowflake theme from a drop-down menu for the background of the lesson, or under Background you can use the orange Browse button to open a file browser, and then select an image from your hard drive or from the internet.

In the Gameplay section, you can wt the words to appear in the same order and the same rows that they appear in the Manage Content screen. The Randomize option will shuffle the word order in each row. All Random shuffles the words all over the rows. In this section, you can activate and set a timer.

To interact with the lesson in full-screen mode, press Play.
