Table of contents
Purpose and Description
The Spinner app is good for conversation and classroom discussion starters, presenting essential questions for a given topic, grouping or selecting students for activities or learning centers. The Spinner lesson template presents a wheel that contain text, images, or text + images on a spinner. Audio can be added to the spinner, and will activate when the spinner stops.
How it works:Play mode
On "My Lessons" page search for the lesson that you want to create. Use the filters to the right to streamline your search. Once you find the desired lesson, touch the "Play" icon located on the middle of the lesson to open it.
After opening a Spinner lesson, a spinner will appear on the screen. Swipe the spinner and it will spin. When it stops, the content closest to the white arrow located to the left of the spinner will be highlighted and the other sections will be faded. Any sound added to the spinner will play at that point.
How to Build
The Manage Content Screen opens upon selecting the lesson type, where content for the lesson can be set. Above is an example from a previously created lesson.
Type in the title of the lesson in the textbox located at the top left-hand side of the screen. Tap the Create Content button to add each content bar needed for the lesson. For this lesson type, items can be set to display as text-only, image only, or text + image and include audio.
Use the Background button located next to the text box to import images, and the Sound button to import audio, if needed. Selecting these buttons will activate a file browser.
From this browser, you can select images from your computer, or enter a search term and select images from the Internet. If an object has sound added, it will play when the card is placed to the correct location. Selecting the circle to the left of the row will randomize the colors on the wheel.
The Customize Content screen for the Spinner lesson type has a "Remove segments" checkbox. Checking this means that after every spin, the item that ends up selected will be removed from the wheel. When there are no items left in the wheel a restart button will appear, allowing you to restart the process. Tap on the "UPDATE PREVIEW" button to enable the change.
The Preview Screen, located in the top right of the interface, will display the current state of the lesson as you update your work. After you are done making the lesson, the Preview screen provides a way to play the lesson and check if any changes are needed.
In the Text section, located beneath the Preview Screen, you can select the font, font size, font color, and font shadow.
In the Background section you can choose a background for your lesson. Under Theme you can choose a NUITEQ Snowflake theme from a drop-down menu. Under Background you can use the orange button to open a file browser and select an image from your hard drive or the internet.
In the Gameplay section, you can make the objects ordered or randomized by choosing the corresponding options. Ordered is the default option. You can activate and set a timer as well.
To interact with the lesson in full-screen mode, press Play.
