Nodes

Nodes is a collaborative tool that can be used in board and meeting rooms to improve productivity. This app assists creative processes, such as brainstorming, conceptualising and strategic planning. Never lose any Nodes project progress anymore. With the autosave function in Nodes, your project progress will automatically be saved.

Presentation mode

When edit mode is off, Nodes is in presentation mode.

Tapping a node in this mode will open or close it.
The menu can be used to create, load and save a project. All other options are disabled.

You can search for nodes by opening the corner menu and pressing the keyboard button.
A search window will open and show a list the nodes, type in the search field to narrow down the list.

Selecting a node in the search list will highlight that node, it will stay highlighted until you tap on it.

Edit mode

Press on the button to activate edit mode.

In edit mode you can create new nodes, edit existing nodes and edit the content of these nodes.
Tapping on a node in edit mode will first select it, tapping on a selected node will open or close it.

Create and edit a node

Create new nodes by dragging an empty node out on the canvas.

To edit a node, start by selecting it. This will highlight the node and enable the edit options.

Name

Press the Name button to begin editing the node name.

Color

Press any of the five colors to change the color of the currently selected node.

The graphics used for the node (the default hexagon shape) can be changed by replacing the defaultNode.png, nodeHighlight.png and the searchHighlight.png files located at the following location: (installation directory, usually C:\Program Files(x86))\Snowflake (edition)\bin\applications\Nodes\data\graphics

Content

Press Edit Content to activate content editing. The node must be open to access the content editing.

Add Media will let you browse for an image, video, PowerPoint files or PDF to add. You can also add GIFs. This can later be scaled by pinching.
Add Link will open up two text input fields in the bottom of the content window. The left field is for typing in the text that will be shown as a link in the content window. The right field is where you type in the URL for that link.
Add Text will open up a text input field that lets you type in text, pressing enter will add that text as a block in the node content window.

Tapping on a content block will select it, and open up a small menu to the left of it.

This menu can be used to the content position up and down, edit the content by pressing the pen and lastly remove it by pressing the trash can. Pressing the trash can will open a small confirm button directly underneath it, pressing this button will remove the content.

The use of PowerPoint files (ppt, pptx) requires internet connection.

Connections

Press Connections to manage connections between nodes.

Dragging out from the selected node will create a new floating connection and remove any current ones. Dropping the new connection on a valid node, shown by a small button in the upper left corner, will make that node the parent to the currently selected one. Dropping the new connection on the node that is being connected will restore any previous connections. If the connection is dropped anywhere else, the node will be left without a parent and will now be considered a root node.

Delete

Pressing Delete will open up a dialog window confirming the removal of the currently selected node. Pressing Yes will remove the node, pressing No will close the dialog. Deleting a node that has hidden children will delete those children as well.

Browse for background

Pressing Browse background will open up a file browser. Use the this to browse for an image to set as the background for this project.

Manage project

New will open up a dialog window asking if the user really wants to create a new project. Choosing Yes will clear everything and give you a new canvas to work on, choosing No will close the dialog window and you can keep working on the current project.

Save will open a file browser where you can choose a project name and where to save it. Nodes will create a folder, with the same name as the project, in the given location. Make sure to choose a location where you have write permissions. When you have selected a location, press the Save button in the bottom of the file browser. Pressing Cancel will close the file browser and nothing will be saved.

Load will open a file browser where you can browse to the location of the project that you wish to load. You can navigate to the location of the saved project and tap on the .nds file to load it. (For older versions of the saved Nodes projects: In the project folder you should find a file named main.xml. Select that file and the project will be loaded.)

Autosave

The Nodes app has an autosave feature, which saves your project in the Nodes app every so often (default is every 5 minutes). To trigger the autosave feature, you need to save the project once.

Default project: Set a default project, this will be loaded when the Nodes is started. If this is empty, or the set project fails to load, an empty project will be started with Edit mode activated.
Background: Set a default background.
Stretch background: Enable this to make the selected background be stretched to fit the current aspect Nodes is running under.
Hide the menu: Check to disable the menu and remove the possibility to alter a presentation.
Set edit mode on project load: Enable this to have the edit mode enabled by default on loading a project
Maximum number...: Set the maximum number of nodes that can be opened at the same time, opening a node when the threshold is reached will close the oldest open node.
Keeps auto-saving project after initial save: Toggle auto saving after the first manual save
Seconds between each auto-save: Time interval in seconds between each auto save.

warningNote
In order for links to correctly open the browser app, the browser.nui name must remain unchanged.
